The purpose of a heritage inspection is to assess the archaeological significance of land or other property. In this regard, the inspection determines the presence of archaeological sites which warrant protection, or are already protected, under the Heritage Conservation Act. BC Archaeology Branch
A heritage investigation is undertaken in order to recover information which might otherwise be lost as a result of site alteration or destruction. BC Archaeology Branch

The site alteration permit authorizes the removal of residual archaeological deposits once the inspection and investigation are completed. BC Archaeology Branch

 

Heritage inspections and investigations ordered by the minister responsible for heritage under s14(4) of the Heritage Conservation Act

Forestry Activities - 5 (1) Subject to subsection (2), the minister responsible for the Forest Act by order may identify one or more of the following as resource features in relation to a specified area: (e) a cultural heritage resource that is the focus of a traditional use by an aboriginal people and that is not regulated by the Heritage Conservation Act B.C. Reg. 582/2004
